The Stephen Ferguson Chambers logo draws heavily on the family crest of the Ferguson clan. The crest contains a thistle head and a honeybee and is seen in many variations through the history of the clan.

The crest contains the Latin motto “Dulcius ex asperis”; this can be translated variously as “Sweetness after Difficulties” or Sweeter out of Difficulties” – a more poetic and appropriate dynamic translation for one of the UK’s leading criminal barristers might be “Sweetness after Victory”, for there is nothing sweeter in a criminal trial than the words ‘not guilty’.
Add to this the warning to opponents that in the Ferguson crest, both the thistle and the bee have a sting if not treated with respect.

We have interpreted the crest in a contemporary stripped back style, using hard lines and a single splash of colour on the honeybee. The crest matches the contemporary style of the brand font, which is equally stark and bold.
