Jubilee 2025 – Pilgrims of Hope.

We created a new brand for a very special service at Canterbury Cathedral. 2025 is a jubilee year in the Catholic Calendar and as part of the celebrations, the Papal Nuncio agreed to deliver a special Mass at Canterbury. Although a Catholic Mass is held once a year at Canterbury, this was the first Catholic Mass celebrated in the High Altar sanctuary in nearly 500 years.

Our inspiration for the logo was the Mandorla, an almond or lens-shaped enclosure that surrounds sacred figures in ancient manuscripts, iconography and paintings. A Mandorla is the intersection of two circles, sometimes seen to represent the intersection of heaven and earth and often used in seals, tokens and medallions.

In the centre of the Mandorla is the mitre of St Thomas Becket. Behind the mitre is the ghost of a sword, the means by which he was killed. This association has become symbolic for St Thomas Becket and Canterbury.  The words Jubilaeum 2025 Peregrini Spei (Jubilee 2025, Pilgrims of Hope) appear in the border. The key colours are Catholic ‘cardinal’ red and gold; in the printed collateral the gold was printed using the Xerox Iridesse, a digital production press that prints gold dry ink (toner), adding a lustre, particularly to the pilgrim certificates.

The collateral included VIP invitations, service sheets, a pilgrimage certificate with special effect gold ink using the Xerox Iridesse, roller banners, special gifts and the registration website.
